What is a smart meter?

A smart meter is an advanced version of a traditional gas/electricity meter that automatically sends us readings[1] either half-hourly, daily or monthly. If you prefer, you can still submit your own readings, it’s up to you. As we move towards a greener future, traditional energy meters are being phased out and smart meters are being installed in homes across Great Britain at no extra cost to customers.
